Choral Conducting Intensive
June 19-June 23, 2023
Taught by this country’s master teachers of Laban applied to conducting, the course is designed for in-depth exploration of what is at the root of a conductor’s gesture, and to give participants the tools to effect immediate change through expressive gesture in their ensembles. Using innovative new pedagogy developed by Jordan and detailed in his new book, The Conductor’s Gesture. Regardless of experience, will learn skills that will rebuild their conducting technique, or set the foundation for those new to conducting.
Beginning Choral Conducting
June 19-June 23, 2023
This course teaches the fundamental concepts and skills of choral conducting. It is designed for the musician with some prior choral conducting exposure but little formal training. Workshop participants focus on the relationship between music, gesture and communication, coupled with basic musicianship skills and vocal issues unique to the choral ensemble. These skills are learned through conducting, singing and observing the preparation and performance of compositions from various style periods.
Voice Pedagogy Institute
July 31–August 4, 2023
Westminster’s Voice Pedagogy Institute is a focused, intensive program for singers, voice teachers, coaches, and other professional voice users who wish to become better teachers. Evidence-based teaching with practical applications of voice anatomy/physiology and acoustics, vocal health with voice-centered laryngologists, technical work in both Classical and Musical Theater genres, Yoga as it applies to singing, interactive look-in lessons with master teachers, and (typically) hands-on use of the Presser Voice Lab are all part of this fascinating week.
