University named to Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Honor Roll
by Rachel Stengel '14, '20
Rider University was recognized as one of the most transfer friendly colleges in the nation for the seventh consecutive year. Named to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's annual Transfer Honor Roll, Rider was honored for the pathways it creates for community college students to transfer to the University successfully.
The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer students, admission practices and bachelor’s degree completion.
“The goal of most students attending community college is a bachelor’s degree, but few do because of financial barriers and the complexities of the transfer process,” says Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “We are proud to recognize the exceptional colleges and universities that go above and beyond to create accessible pathways to bachelor’s degree completion for community college transfer students.”
We...have worked hard over the years to build our strong reputation for creating a welcoming, supportive and engaging transfer community."
The University offers guaranteed transfer agreements with a number of community colleges, including some that are major-specific. Prior to enrollment, Rider pairs transfer students with personal counselors who navigate them through the admissions process and offer advising following acceptance. Additional support includes an unofficial credit evaluation, even before transfer students apply.
At Rider, 99% of students receive University-funded scholarships and financial aid, and transfer students with a 3.5 GPA or higher earn transfer scholarships worth nearly 50% of tuition. Additionally, Rider offers three full-tuition Transfer Trustee Scholarships to top community college graduates each fall.
“We are a premier destination for transfer honors students and have worked hard over the years to build our strong reputation for creating a welcoming, supportive and engaging transfer community,” says Jennifer Cook, associate director of admission. “It is an honor to once again be recognized by Phi Theta Kappa as an honor roll institution.”
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The society is made up of more than 3.8 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 10 countries, with approximately 240,000 active members in the nation’s colleges.
