The Music Program on Rider University's main campus in Lawrenceville, NJ offers two degrees in music. The Bachelor of Arts in Popular Music Studies presents students with a focused study in twentieth- and twenty-first century popular music in a unique context that will give them an unrivalled advantage in any professional aspect of popular music, and the Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts/Music track prepares students for professional careers in classical music. Students will work closely with renowned faculty and recognized professionals in a variety of areas of study. Broad-based liberal arts study forms the core of these exciting degrees.

The BA in Popular Music Studies offers:

  • Saturation in twentieth- and twenty-first century popular music studies that will give the Rider graduate exceptional advantage in any professional branch of popular music production and writing
  • Course work including general pop music history surveys such as popular music history, film music, world music, hip-hop and rap music, jazz history, in-depth studies with such courses as The Music of the Beatles, Radiohead, The Music of Anime and Animation, iPod and Digital Culture and Music Theory in the writing of songs and professional pop and rock journalism and criticism
  • Personalized contact with professional faculty committed to developing the student's talents in all musical areas and preparing them for a successful career in all fields relating to popular music
