Rider’s ESL Endorsement Program trains future and current educators to develop students' level of English and to be sensitive to the complex backgrounds of culturally and linguistically diverse students.

The mission of the English as a Second Language program at Rider University is to provide the skills, understandings and the development of attitudes necessary to teach culturally and linguistically diverse students for them to achieve their highest potential through education for life.

Rider’s ESL Endorsement Program offers the required courses to obtain certification as a teacher of English as a Second Language in the State of New Jersey.

Who is best for this pathway? Aspiring teachers with a bachelor's degree  who are seeking initial teacher certification as an ESL teacher.  It is also appropriate for alternate route participants who hold a certificate of eligibility (CE)  Practicing teachers or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) holders who wish to add the ESL endorsement to their existing license. Practicing teachers with two or more years of teaching experience who wish to move into teacher leader roles in their schools, and add the ESL endorsement to their teaching license.
