At Rider, students have many living options—one of the most engaging being the Norm Brodsky College of Business' Living & Learning Community (Business LLC). The Business Living & Learning Community students live together in the same dormitory (Ziegler Hall) and attend several of their Freshman level courses together. The program is designed to not only ease the transition to “college life,” but also help build connections among students, faculty, and staff within the Rider community.
Business LLC Cohorts
For the purpose of course planning and advising, the Business Learning Community is comprised of three cohorts:
- Freshman Business Administration majors
- Freshman Marketing majors
- Freshman Honors students
Business in Action
A unique aspect of the Business LLC is the Business in Action program. Initiated in 2016, the Business in Action program directly connects classroom learning with real-world application. During their “Introduction to Business” course Fall semester, students are formed into teams within their cohort. During the course, students are taught how to develop a business plan and are given funds to execute their plan throughout the semester. Made possible thanks to the generous sponsorships of Rider alumni and friends, students work toward generating a profit by implementing the plan they designed in class. The profits are then donated to a charity of the students’ choice.
Hear from the Experts
In addition to the Business in Action program, students in the Business LLC also have the unique opportunity to participate in a guest speaker series throughout their first semester. Many of the speakers either own their own company or hold senior roles within their organizations. Previous speakers include Gregory Olsen, an entrepreneur and venture capitalist who was the third private citizen to travel to the International Space Station; T.J. Coakley, who spent almost 30 years in the healthcare industry; and David Fortunati who serves as the Director of Acquisition & Development Operations for Johnson & Johnson.
