Elementary Education Certification

The Graduate Level Elementary Education (K-5) certification program is 21 credit hours and consists of four initial courses, followed by a seminar and internship. The program is organized in a developmental sequence with initial courses providing a foundation for later courses.

Initial teacher certification requirements:
Teacher certification occurs upon completion of course CURR 770
CURR 700, Educational Foundations 3
CURR 702, Early Literacy Teaching & Learning 3
CURR 710, Elementary Mathematics Teaching & Learning 3
CURR 715, Elementary Science, Arts & Social Studies Teaching and Learning 3
CURR 770, Clinical Experience & Seminar in Teaching 9
Acquisition of the MAT degree occurs after completion of the following:  
CURR 531, Curriculum Design & Development for Innovation & Change 3
SPED 500, Inclusive Practices for General Education Teachers – or –
CURR 538, Assessment of Curriculum & Instruction to Improve the Performance of Teachers & Diverse Learners – or –
CURR 548, Curriculum & Instruction for Diverse Learners
EDAD 521, Data-based Decision-Making in Teaching & Learning 3
