Recital Scheduling

Only required recitals may be reserved during the recital lottery. Recital lottery results will be emailed to students and teachers approximately one week after the end of the lottery period.

Students who do not participate in the lottery or wish to change a recital time reserved in the lottery may request required recitals once lottery assignments have been confirmed. Recitals which are not academic requirements may not be requested until the semester of the recital. Request forms are available from Performance Management or by email from wccevents@rider.edu. Completed requests will be processed in the order received.

Recital Spaces

Performance Management books Bristol Chapel, Hillman Hall, the Playhouse and Williamson Hall for recitals. Hillman Hall may not be used for non-required or junior recitals under any circumstances. Bristol Chapel may not be used for non-required or junior recitals except for junior organ recitals or by special permission. The special permission request form is available from Performance Management.

Recital halls will be set up in a standard configuration (a diagram was sent with recital confirmation). The performer is responsible for any additional set up. The recital space must be returned to its original configuration by the end of the reserved time to avoid inconveniencing other performers. Performers may not alter the preset light settings or curtain positions in Hillman Hall for any reason.

Recital Dates and Times

Recitals are scheduled for 60 minutes of performance, plus 15 minutes before and after the recital. Recitals are scheduled to allow the maximum number of recitals per day in each venue. Recitals are scheduled at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Recitals may only be scheduled during finals week by permission of the applied department and the associate dean. The permission form is available from Performance Management.

Canceled Recitals

Canceled or postponed recitals must be reported to Performance Management by email (wccevents@rider.edu) prior to the recital date. A new recital may not be reserved unless the previous recital reservation is canceled.

Recital Programs, Recording and Documentation

Printed programs and recording arrangements for the recital performance are the responsibility of the performer.

Five archive copies of the recital program, formatted according to the Archive Program Guideline (sent with your recital confirmation and available online), must be submitted to the Academic Coordinator no later than ten days after the recital.

The recital documentation form, signed by your applied teacher, must be submitted to the Academic Coordinator no later than ten days after the recital.

Scheduling Dress Rehearsals and Receptions

Reservations for a dress rehearsal in the recital space (90 minute limit) and reception space may be made during the recital semester, beginning on registration day. (Exceptions may be made for early-semester recitals.) A dress rehearsal and reception may be reserved only after a recital reservation is confirmed. Due to space limitations, availability of space for dress rehearsals and receptions is not guaranteed.

Dress rehearsals may not be scheduled in Williamson Hall during office hours except by teacher request emailed to wccevents@rider.edu.

Receptions are typically held in Thayer Lounge or the Martin Room. Receptions may not be held in any part of Bristol Hall, the Cullen Center or Williamson Hall. The reception area should be clean and ready for use at the end of the reserved reception time. Reservations may be requested by email (wccevents@rider.edu) or event request form.

School-Owned Instruments (Chamber Organ or Harpsichord)

Use of university-owned harpsichords or the chamber organ must be arranged with the Sacred Music office (sacredmusic@rider.edu, ext. 8277) at least three weeks before the recital. Instruments may not be moved to another recital venue. Permission to use the chamber organ or a harpsichord is not guaranteed.

Publicity

Student recitals are posted on the Rider University Arts calendar. A description of the recital may be sent to wccevents@rider.edu to be added to the web calendar. All other publicity is the responsibility of the performer. On-campus posters must be stamped by the Associate Dean of Students office and posted only in approved locations.
