What is Tutoring Services?
Tutoring Services, a Academic Success Center program housed in the Bart Luedeke Center, Suite 237, provides free individual and group tutoring by peer tutors in content area courses. Peer tutors help improve performance in a difficult course by modeling effective study techniques and breaking down difficult concepts.
Who are the tutors?
Our peer tutors are successful students who have earned at least a B+ in the courses they tutor, have been recommended by their professors, and have been trained in tutoring techniques through our tutor training program. Their goal is to help students review course content through the use of interactive learning strategies.
Can I apply to become a student tutor?
Join our center. Our tutors are some of the finest students Rider has to offer. If you are interested in learning more about Tutoring Services and being trained as a peer tutor, please complete the Tutor Application.
What kind of tutoring is available?
Students can schedule individual or group appointments for most courses other than English or Liberal Arts Mathematics.
Frequently tutored courses include:
- Foreign Languages
- Quantitative Methods
- Political Science
When and where is tutoring scheduled?
Most of the tutoring sessions are scheduled in the Academic Success Center during our normal hours of business.
Tutoring can be scheduled after hours and on weekends by contacting our office at 609-896-5008 or ([email protected]).
As one of our goals is to make tutoring accessible to students, we schedule many Drop-in and Supplemental Instruction review sessions each week.
What do I need for my tutoring sessions?
You will get the most out of tutoring if you prepare. To enable the tutor to best meet your needs, we recommend that you do the following:
- Complete assigned reading and homework
- Prepare questions
- Bring the materials that you may need to the session including your syllabus and assignments, your text and note books, old quizzes or study guides, and a pen or pencil.
How do I arrange for tutoring?
A request for a tutor can be made at any point during the semester.
Go to Tutortrac to schedule an appointment or to check the times of our regularly scheduled Drop-in or Supplemental Instruction sessions.
If you do not see the course that you are enrolled in listed through Tutortrac, please let our office so know so that we can find a tutor for you. We offer several options for requesting tutors if none appear to be available through Tutortrac:
