Why Brenda chose Rider
Brenda conducted extensive research when it came to choosing where to complete her bachelor’s. In search of an accounting program with a 4+1 dual degree option as well as AACSB accreditation, Brenda decided Rider was the place that would breed her success. Due to Rider’s “close-knit” environment, Brenda was able to forge meaningful relationships with her professors, and share in their passion.

Rider’s impact on Brenda
Brenda soon realized that not only is it important to excel academically, but also excel out of the classroom. Despite her freshman year being mostly remote, Brenda got involved wherever she could, attending virtual events and career fairs. “You always have to strive to make the most out of any situation,” she explains. Brenda joined the Aspiring Accounting Professionals program, which through bi-weekly meetings they are able to connect and network with accounting professionals, as well as providing workshops designed to boost student’s knowledge of accounting.

Looking ahead
Brenda applied for her co-op in spring of her freshman year, and got accepted into the Janssen Business Development Finance department at Johnson & Johnson. She is responsible for supporting key deal processes, as well as serving as the main point of contact for monthly deal reporting. Brenda believes that if it wasn’t for Rider pushing her to network and get out there early on, she would never have landed such a prestigious opportunity. From career fairs to clubs and the career center, Rider prepared Brenda for every step of the process, now she is learning new skills every day that help her become a more well rounded worker.
Brenda urges any Rider student to put themselves out there and take advantage of the vast opportunities Rider has to offer. Try new things, push yourself out of your comfort zone and connect with as many people as possible and attend every event you can. “You never know, you could possibly meet your future employer in one of those events!”
