by Tatiana Sciancalepore
Rider University commenced the 2023-24 academic year with resounding success, proudly announcing substantial gains in enrollment alongside a notable increase in retention rates. Welcoming 1,023 full-time undergraduate students, including 804 freshmen and 219 transfer students, the University reported an impressive 7% increase compared to fall 2022 and an astonishing 27% rise since fall 2021. The University's retention rate stands at a remarkable 80.5%, nearly four points higher than the previous year.
"We are excited to witness such incredible growth," says President Gregory G. Dell’Omo, Ph.D. “While it's no secret that institutions of higher education have faced many challenges in recent years, Rider remains steadfast in its determination to progress. Our dedicated faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to provide students with an outstanding educational experience and will continue to do so, ensuring that our University thrives and our students excel.”
Rider's success has been further bolstered by the University’s continued introduction of new undergraduate and graduate programs. Notable additions like the newly established elementary education - STEM studies major and the Bachelor of Social Work program continue to play a pivotal role in attracting driven, high-achieving students who aspire to excel in their chosen fields.
“At Rider, we are dedicated to ensuring that our academic offerings remain aligned with employer demands and industry advancements,” says Dell’Omo. “Now more than ever, it is essential that we equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in an ever-changing job market.”
Deeply committed to student success, Rider requires all undergraduates to complete real-world learning opportunities through the Engaged Learning Program. This emphasis on experiential learning ensures that Rider graduates leave with not just academic knowledge but also practical skills and real-world perspectives. The University’s recently announced partnership with the New York Giants is just one example of Rider's continuous efforts to expand the horizons of student learning.
The Cranberry Investment further emphasizes the University’s confidence in its educational quality by guaranteeing that qualified students will secure an entry-level job related to their field of study or be accepted into graduate or professional school within six months of graduation.
Rider University is consistently recognized by the most prestigious publications for academic excellence. Earlier this month, the University was recognized on The Princeton Review’s Best 389 Colleges for 2024 and secured a place on the "Best Northeast" and "Green Colleges" lists, along with an impressive No. 7 ranking for "Best College Radio Station." This year also saw Rider rise in rankings in U.S. News & World Report’s list of the best regional universities in the north.
