Celebrating its 15th season, Westminster Conservatory welcomes pianists, strings, and winds students to come join us for an exciting week of chamber music and fun. Collaboration, experimentation, and improvisation will be part of the experience as well as the study and performance of magnificent traditional repertoire from all style periods. The make-up of the chamber ensembles and the repertoire assigned will evolve around the participants who sign up:  their abilities, their instruments, their personalities and preferences. Our talented faculty will put everything into the mix

The week will conclude with an “Ensemble Spectacular” on Tuesday (July 2) afternoon in one of Westminster Choir College’s prestigious halls where the students’ accomplishments will be celebrated in a formal concert.

All participants in this camp must be proficient in reading music and be able to learn music quickly and with some independence. New students to Westminster Chamber Music Camp may be asked to take a Placement Audition to determine their readiness and/or to place them in ensembles.  All students must be entering grades 6 through 12 in the fall of 2019 and taking private lessons on the instrument(s) they wish to play at camp.

Placement Audition
Any student requiring a placement must register first before the audition can be scheduled.  Families will be contacted to schedule an audition time with one or both of the camp directors.  At the audition, students will be asked to play a brief solo that demonstrates their playing ability, and will be required to sight read. The camp directors reserve the right to determine whether or not a student is ready for this camp based on their audition. If the student is not ready, the deposit can be used towards a different Conservatory camp or can be fully refunded.

Because of the overwhelming popularity of Chamber Music Camp from year to year, it is of vital importance for participants to register early and schedule their audition before the cut-off date of June 1, 2019.  Planning repertoire for this unique body of students takes time and thoughtful consideration to allow for an optimal camp experience for everyone.

Westminster Chamber Music Camp will be held on the Westminster Choir College campus.  Students will have the opportunity to enjoy rehearsing and playing in various spaces on the campus including the Robert Annis Playhouse, the Marion Buckelew Cullen Center, Bristol Chapel and Princeton Hall.

The camp will run from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM Thursday through Tuesday. Lunch will be served at the campus cafeteria on weekdays. Special pizza parties will be planned for the weekends.  The “Ensemble Spectacular” performance will take place Tuesday afternoon in the Robert Annis Playhouse on the Westminster Choir College campus.
