Rider University’s Department of Humanities brings together programs that explore language, literature, history, philosophy, culture and communication. Through close reading, thoughtful discussion, research and writing, students develop the skills to think critically, communicate effectively and engage with the people, ideas and issues that shape our world.

As scholars, writers, historians, philosophers and language experts, they bring deep knowledge and real-world perspective to the classroom while helping students shape their academic path.
Put it into practice
Students in the Department of Humanities have opportunities to apply what they learn through internships, research, writing, publication, cultural experiences and hands-on projects. Whether exploring archival materials, developing professional writing skills, studying languages or examining the ideas that have shaped societies across time, students build experience that connects their coursework to the world beyond Rider.
