Supervisor FAQ

Supervisors fill out the Handshake job posting request, and email the job description to [email protected]. The Student Employment Coordinator will post the position. If you are not hiring new student workers, then you do not need to post the position.

Please contact the student employment coordinator Alyssa Larrosa, for the link to the Intent to Hire form. 

• This form is completed for new and returning students, and a separate form is needed for the summer months. 
• This form also automatically generates and emails an offer letter to the student and will include wage information, job title, and next steps.
• Students must complete the I9 work authorization form before their first day of work. Please do not allow students to work until you receive confirmation from Student Employment that this has been completed.

Student employment does not assign wages to positions, this is a guide for supervisors so that they can pay their employees a fair wage based on their job responsibilities.

The start and end dates of employment coincide with the start and end dates of the semester. The students can begin as early as the first day of the current semester, and their last day is the last day of classes for each semester.

Students may work during finals week if they wish to do so and if your student employment budget has the flexibility for an extra week of work. 

Students may work a maximum of 20 hours a week while classes are in session.

It is highly recommended that supervisors communicate with their employees in person and in writing the areas in which they need to improve before termination. Please email [email protected] with the students' name, Bronc ID, position number, and last day of work for the student. 

All student employees (graduate assistants, undergraduate workers, and interns) are considered to be at-will employees. They can be let go for any reason, without notice.

Examples of grounds for termination include:

1. Unreported Absences and tardiness three (3) or more times 
2. Unsatisfactory work performance 
3. Violation of the Student Code of Conduct 
4. Falsification of timesheets 
5. Violation of the Confidentiality Agreement 
6. Use of alcohol or illegal/illicit drugs in the workplace

The student employment coordinator emails budgets to all division heads typically during the month of May or June. The division head then shares this information with supervisors. Please check in with your division head for each fiscal years budget. 

During the year, you can check your spending by following the below steps.

1. Select Finance Self-Service in the Finance page of your MyRider 
2. Go to My Finance Query
3. Click New Query (Blue button on the right)
4. Make sure the drop-down on top says budget quick query 
5. Input: 
   1. Chart: R Rider University 
   2. Fiscal Year: enter the current fiscal year 
6. All other fields can be left blank or as is. 
7. Click submit
8. You will see the total budget allocated with the specific spending from Graduate Assistants, Student Workers, and Federal Work Study Student Workers.
