Coughlin’s views on New Jersey’s political climate and electoral prospects among key topics to be discussed
by Tatiana Sciancalepore
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will host “An Evening with Speaker Craig Coughlin” on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in Lynch Adler Hall Room 202.
New Jersey General Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin has represented the 19th legislative district since 2010 and was elected assembly speaker in 2018.
Points of discussion for the evening’s events include Coughlin’s views on his majority’s electoral prospects for the upcoming 2023 elections, his potential candidacy for higher office, safety for public officials and his thoughts on New Jersey’s current political climate.
"Our students and members of the Rider and surrounding community will have an excellent opportunity to learn about our state's public affairs from one of its leading practitioners,” says Micah Rasmussen ’92, director of the Rebovich Institute.
Coughlin, who has held numerous positions in his home county of Middlesex, is passionate about improving the lives of New Jersey’s most vulnerable citizens. He has led multiple statewide bills aimed at addressing food insecurity issues and even launched his own “Bowl for Hunger” fundraising event in 2018.
"Speaker Coughlin is viewed as a pragmatic, moderating influence on state policy,” says Rasmussen. “We are eager to hear how he accomplishes this approach in a time of political polarization."
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics is dedicated to public service and scholarly analysis of government, public policy, campaigns and elections in New Jersey. It was founded in 2001 by the late Professor David Rebovich (1949–2007). Today, the Rebovich Institute is a dynamic and creative home where students can network, study and gain practical experience in New Jersey politics.
"An Evening with Speaker Craig Coughlin" is free and open to the public, but advanced registration is requested by visiting rider.edu/speakercoughlin.
