On November 8, the Westminster Jubilee Singers present Solid Rock — a powerful evening of music that affirms the strength of faith, the comfort of grace, and the joy of community. The program journeys through a rich tapestry of sacred music, from the soaring lyricism of R. Nathaniel Dett’s Ave Maria to the quiet prayerfulness of Bonds (Prayer of St. Francis). Gospel favorites, including Deborah Perry’s heartfelt Blessed Assurance, Richard Smallwood’s beloved Center of My Joy, and Joe Pace’s rousing Solid Rock, lift the spirit and ground the first half of the evening in gratitude and praise.
The concert culminates in André Thomas’ Gospel Mass: A Celebration of Love & Joy. This work seamlessly blends the liturgical tradition of the Mass with the exuberance of gospel music. With movements that invite both reflection and rejoicing, the Gospel Mass stands as a vibrant testament to the enduring power of music to inspire, to heal, and to bring people together.
