Purpose of the Program
This program takes a cohort approach, using project-based professional development and is designed to provide faculty with the tools, time, and collegial support to help faculty work through the course design process with emphasis on the special topics. We offer a three-day session for general course design as well as particular themes, such as flipped learning, teaching first year student, writing across the curriculum. The Teaching and Learning Center will follow up with Institute participants to offer continuing support and ensure the effectiveness of the Institute.
Best practices in course design will be shared, as well as the opportunity to receive feedback from a variety of individuals.

Participants will have time to focus on enhancing student learning in one particular course. Participants will also receive benefit of collegial discussion.
Outcomes of the Program
Upon completion, participants will have created the basic structure of your course—including a draft syllabus, assignments that support deep learning, and course outline that align learning outcomes, assessment, and learning activities. Participants will have had a chance to exchange feedback with a diverse group of colleagues from across the university, allowing them to share their ideas about teaching and gather new ideas from their peers.
