Newman has served as interim dean since 2016
Rider University announced today, May 30, that Cynthia M. Newman, Ph.D., has been appointed the dean of the College of Business Administration (CBA) effective June 1, 2017. Newman has served as the interim dean of CBA since 2016.
She has been affiliated with Rider University since 1992 when she joined CBA as an adjunct professor. Since then, she has held many progressive roles, including chair of the marketing department; professor of marketing; associate dean for graduate programs and accreditation; and interim dean.
“Cindy has been a valuable member of our CBA team for many years,” said DonnaJean Fredeen, Ph.D., Rider’s provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. “She has successfully led CBA during the last year, including a comprehensive reaffirmation of accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the areas of both business and accounting, a hallmark of excellence that has been earned by less than five percent of the world’s business schools.”
“I am confident that Cindy is the right leader for CBA, and I look forward to working with her as she continues to lead the CBA with her new title of dean,” Dr. Fredeen added.
In addition to her work with AACSB, Newman is also credited with the revision of CBA’s MBA program to 33 credits, as well as the formation and launch of a fully online MBA degree. She has also helped to design and promote three accelerated degree programs, allowing Rider students to complete bachelor and master’s degrees in an accelerated timeframe.
“My goal as the new dean of CBA is to be a compassionate, collaborative and creative leader who inspires transformation that leads to fulfilling, impactful personal and professional lives among those with whom I engage," Newman said. "This is a tremendous opportunity, and I am grateful to bring my skills and vision to lead Rider’s CBA.”
Prior to joining Rider, Newman was the vice president of research and marketing at Institutional Marketing & Communications, Inc., in Newtown, Pa. She earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s degree in business administration from Rider University. She completed her doctoral degree in higher education administration at the University of Pennsylvania.
Newman is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Marketing Association and Omicron Delta Epsilon. She has received numerous awards for her work and has been published in many professional business journals.
