Annual Mr. Pink pageant brings Rider’s Greek community together for philanthropy
by Alix Knice
Rider University’s Zeta Lambda chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) hosted its annual Mr. Pink pageant on Sept. 24, where members of Rider fraternities, including Theta Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Delta Sigma Pi, competed in a talent show to raise money for ZTA's philanthropy, breast cancer education, awareness and research.
“Pageants really bring the whole Greek community together, so Mr. Pink allows us to have fun while supporting our amazing cause,” says Samantha Clark, junior communications studies major and ZTA’s vice president of philanthropy and service. “Making memories while also raising money is what makes this one of our chapter's favorite events.”
In the three days leading up to the event, contestants completed challenges in exchange for donations from friends and family. The Mr. Pink show itself consisted of performances featuring singing, dancing, playing instruments, reading poetry and attempting Limbo challenges, as well as ZTA trivia and a speed-round of fundraising.
Colin Christie, a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon, was crowned Mr. Pink based on fundraising, trivia performance and talent. In all, ZTA and the participating fraternities raised a total of $7,086.05, placing them just $3,000 short of its semester fundraising goal before the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, where the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha will continue their efforts to “Think Pink” every day.
