Students recognized for leadership, academic excellence and commitment to unity
Seniors Olivia Bucs, Moira Geiger and Christopher Lux-Beteta were recognized with Rider University’s top student awards at a luncheon held in their honor on May 7.
“These talented students have made a lasting impact on our campus community,” says Rider University President John R. Loyack, CPA, MBA. “Through their academic achievements, involvement across campus and dedication to supporting others, they have helped shape the Rider experience for their peers while preparing for bright futures beyond the University. Their accomplishments reflect the very best of what it means to be a Bronc.”
President’s Award
The President’s Award recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills, academic achievement, service to the University and extracurricular involvement.
Moira Geiger
During her time at Rider, Moira Geiger, a computer science major with a concentration in cybersecurity, has achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA while conducting and publishing research in her field. A member of the Baccalaureate Honors Program, Macmillan Fellow and Andrew J. Rider Scholar, Geiger exemplifies academic excellence at the highest level.
“Rider has allowed me to dream bigger and grow into roles I could have never imagined,” she says. “I was blessed to be surrounded by people who uplifted me and encouraged me to strive for greater. I will always be thankful that I left Rider as a better student than I came in.”
As student body president, Geiger has led with resilience, integrity and a deep commitment to her peers, guiding the student body during a pivotal time for the University. Her leadership across student government, athletics, campus initiatives and service reflects a strong sense of purpose and dedication. Geiger’s impact is defined not only by her accomplishments, but by the lasting influence she has had on the Rider community.
Olivia Bucs
A marketing major with a concentration in financial services, Olivia Bucs is a dynamic leader and accomplished student who has earned a 3.93 GPA while gaining extensive professional experience through internships and leadership roles that have prepared her for a career in digital marketing.
“I am so grateful for those who have supported me throughout the past three years,” says Bucs. “The impact this community has had on me will remain with me throughout my life, and I hope I have contributed something meaningful in return.”
As executive vice president of the Student Government Association, Bucs has played a key role in shaping initiatives that enhance the student experience, including efforts to expand access to professional resources for her peers.
President’s Unity and Belonging Award
The President’s Unity and Belonging Award is presented each year to a student who fosters a climate of respect and promotes an ethos of inclusion and belonging, highlighting the Rider community’s commitment to these important values.
Christopher Lux-Beteta
Christopher Lux-Beteta embodies the spirit and intent of this award. During his four years at Rider, he has worked to create and foster a climate of respect, unity and inclusion across campus.
“What makes Rider so special is the mentors, peers, faculty, and communities that challenge you, believe in you and empower you to grow into your best self,” says Lux-Beteta. “So many people have invested in me throughout my journey. It is a privilege to be able to pour that same intention and encouragement back into others. I am beyond grateful to have called this place home for the last four years, and I give all glory to God as I carry these experiences with me long after graduation.”
Lux-Beteta has served as an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) peer counselor, leader and ambassador, as well as president of the EOP Club, supporting and mentoring students from a wide range of backgrounds. He also served as president of the Social Work Club, organizing initiatives supporting marginalized communities, and participated in the Multicultural Student Leadership Institute (MSLI)/All Broncs Belong program as both a student and mentor.
An active member of several campus organizations, Lux-Beteta has worked for Rider Athletics while competing on the Club Volleyball team. He has maintained a 3.7 GPA while serving as a resident and community assistant, where he fostered a supportive and inclusive environment for fellow students.
