Johnson's No. 4 will be the first to be retired by the women's basketball team
by Rider Sports Information
The Rider University women's basketball team has announced that prior to the Broncs home game against NJIT on Nov. 7, the team will retire No. 4 in honor of Stella Johnson '20. Johnson's No. 4 will be the first to be retired by the women's basketball team, and Johnson will be just the seventh person in Rider Athletics history to have their number retired.
Johnson rewrote the record book during her four years in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, compiling 2,167 points (most in program history), 336 steals (most in program history), 428 assists (third in program history), and 750 rebounds (seventh in program history). Johnson earned postseason conference honors in each of her four years, being named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team as a freshman, earning Second-Team All-MAAC honors as a sophomore, and First-Team All-MAAC honors following her junior and senior seasons. Johnson is the Broncs only two-time MAAC Player of the Year and Rider's first-ever All-American in women's basketball. Johnson was the driving force behind the first team in program history to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in 2020. This culminated in her becoming the 29th pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury.
Tickets for all Rider women's basketball games, including the NJIT contest, are on sale. More information on group sales can be found here.
