A great friend to the University, Dr. Gamble served numerous terms on the Board of Trustees and played on Rider’s last football team
Rider University mourns the loss of Dr. Harry T. Gamble ’52, a distinguished alumnus, dedicated member of the Board of Trustees, and a Rider University Athletics Hall of Famer. Harry passed away earlier today at the age of 83.
“Rider lost a great friend,” said Rider University President Mordechai Rozanski. “Harry was a wonderful ambassador for the University and exemplified the transformative role of athletics in the personal and professional lives of student-athletes, of which he was one of our finest. We are deeply grateful for Harry’s many contributions to Rider over the years and will miss him dearly.”
Harry earned his B.S. in Business Administration in 1952, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Rider in 1987. He also earned M.A. and Ed.D. degrees from Temple University. Inducted in 1996 to the Rider University Athletics Hall of Fame, Harry led the Rider football team to a four-year record of 24-8-1 and two undefeated seasons.
Harry was a current member of the Board of Trustees and also served previously in that capacity from 1998 to 2007. He was a member of the Board’s University Advancement and Student Affairs committees. He served on several other Rider committees throughout the years including the Philadelphia Campaign, Campaign Cabinet, the Sports and Recreation Center Campaign and the 50th Reunion Homecoming.
Harry was a longtime executive of the Philadelphia Eagles where he served as president and general manager and was recognized in 1993 as Pro Sports Executive of the Year by New Jersey sports writers. He later worked as coordinator of football operations and club relations for the National Football League, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. Prior to joining the Eagles, Harry was the head football coach at Lafayette College and the University of Pennsylvania.
Flags on campus will be flown at half-staff in his honor.
