Sherrill, Ciattarelli to debate on Sept. 21
by Rachel Stengel '14, '20
Rider University was selected to host the first gubernatorial debate between Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) and Republican Jack Ciattarelli this fall. The candidates for New Jersey governor will debate on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in Rider’s Alumni Gym in a town hall-style event.
Sponsored by the New Jersey Globe, On New Jersey and Rider University, the debate will be moderated by On New Jersey host Laura Jones, David Wildstein and Joey Fox of the New Jersey Globe, Rebovich Institute of New Jersey Politics at Rider University Director Micah Rasmussen ’92 and Sophie Nieto-Muñoz of the New Jersey Monitor.
“We are enormously grateful to the Election Law Enforcement Commission for choosing Rider as a host,” says Rasmussen. “It’s incredibly gratifying to work with the New Jersey Globe and On New Jersey to help educate voters as they choose who will run the state for the next four years.”
The selection process was a competitive one with nine proposals considered by the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. The September debate will be the third time Rider has hosted a debate for New Jersey gubernatorial candidates on campus, having previously hosted the Republican and Democratic primary debates in February. In May, Rider also co-sponsored the final gubernatorial primary debates in Newark.
The debate will be livestreamed on newjerseyglobe.com and onnj.com and will air on C-SPAN.
