by Adam Grybowski
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will host a discussion with New Jersey’s Republican legislative leaders on March 22 at 7 p.m. in Lynch Adler Hall 202 on Rider’s campus.
“An evening with Steven Oroho and John DiMaio” will feature the new leaders for both the Senate and Assembly Republicans as the GOP is making gains in the New Jersey Legislature. Senate Republican Leader Oroho and Assembly Republican Leader DiMaio have each recently begun their leadership roles.
"We'll use this opportunity of rare legislative leadership change to explore how their policy and strategy can affect the fortunes of their party and state," says Micah Rasmussen, the director of the Rebovich Institute.
Oroho, who is currently serving his fourth term in the New Jersey State Senate, represents the 24th legislative district in the northwestern part of the state. He has been re-elected three times since first winning election to the state Senate in 2007. A certified financial planner with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Saint Francis University, he worked in finance before entering politics. As a legislator, he often focuses his work on budgetary and economic development issues.
DiMaio represents the 23rd district, which includes parts of Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties. He has served as an assemblyman since 2009. A lifelong resident of Hackettstown, he was first elected to public office at 23 and has since served in various roles, including Hackettstown councilman and mayor and Warren County freeholder. DiMaio also owns a general contracting business called A. DiMaio and Son Inc.
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics is dedicated to public service and scholarly analysis of government, public policy, campaigns and elections in New Jersey. It was founded in 2001 by the late Professor David Rebovich (1949–2007). Today, the Rebovich Institute is a dynamic and creative home where students can network, study and gain practical experience in New Jersey politics.
