Rider is the first academic library in the state to offer its students access to the app
by Diane Cornell
Rider’s University Libraries are offering a new way for students, faculty and staff to gain free access to ebooks and audiobooks through an app called The Palace Project. The app provides immediate access to more than 19,000 titles in the New Jersey State Library collection and expands the University Libraries ‘Reading for Fun' offerings. Rider’s Franklin F. Moore Library is the first academic library in the state to take part in this initiative.
One of the goals of The Palace Project is to provide equitable access to digital knowledge.
“Reading or listening for fun is a great way to gain knowledge, to reflect, or to transform your thinking,” says Associate Professor-Librarian Dr. Sharon Whitfield. “When Rider students are using this app and reading and listening outside the classroom, they are learning; they are exciting their imaginations to engage in thought and action.”
The app is available on iPhones, iPads, and Android phones and tablets. After patrons download the app, they can search for their library and create a virtual library card. Ebooks and audiobooks can be checked out for 20 days. If materials are not returned early, they automatically return on their due date.
