When Clint Morrison ’14 of Mechanicsburg, Pa., signed his National Letter of Intent last winter to study and wrestle at Rider University, head coach Gary Taylor knew exactly what he was getting. Taylor, who has guided the Broncs wrestling program for the past 32 seasons, has already coached four other members of the Morrison clan, and if past success is any indicator, he would gladly welcome another five.
“The fact that Clint has decided to continue his education and wrestling career at Rider University is very special to our University and wrestling program,” Taylor said of the youngest Morrison, who was ranked among the top 25 grapplers in the country this season at 171 pounds by Wrestling USA Magazine. “We are very close with them as a family, and the fact that they believe in us to help their son earn a degree and to develop him into an NCAA All-American is very meaningful.”
This fall, Clint joined his brother, Rob Morrison ’11, a senior on this year’s squad. Older brother, T.J. Morrison ’08, graduated from Rider with 103 wins after earning a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) individual title and advancing to four NCAA Championships.
Clint’s father, Tim Morrison ’83, was an All-American wrestler at Rider, finishing fifth in the nation as a senior, and was elected to the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame after compiling a record of 89-9-1. Uncle Dan Morrison ’82, Rider’s Athlete of the Year in 1981-82, still holds program records for wins, dual-meet wins and falls in a season.
Rider will host the 2010 CAA Championship on campus in Alumni Gymnasium and the 2011 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia.
