Join Navarrow Wright ’93 for a special prescreening of CNN’s documentary Black in America: The New Promised Land – Silicon Valley on Thursday, November 10, at 11:30 a.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Fireside Lounge. CNN will air the special, hosted by Soledad O’Brien, on November 13 at 8 p.m. ET.
Black in America will chronicle the efforts of eight African-American entrepreneurs who travel to California’s Silicon Valley, the technological capital of the United States, in order to seek venture capital investments. Less than one percent of all venture capital money went to digital startups with African-American founders in 2010, according to industry analyst CB Insights.
The previously unacquainted participants lived together in a modest, three-bedroom house in Mountain View, Calif., for nine weeks from June to August 2011. During that time, they were mentored by prominent people from within the tech industry, including Wright, the creator of Maximum Leverage Solutions, a consulting firm that delivers Internet and social media strategy consulting as well as technology development consulting to its clients.
Wright, currently the chief technology officer of Interactive One, was the co-founder of GlobalGrind.com, a social media site catering to the hip-hop perspective, with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. He was also a member of the men’s basketball program while earning a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Rider.
The prescreening event will allow the audience to view the program before an engaging Q&A session with Wright.
