The Rider chapter of the National Broadcasting Society (NBS) captured six first-place awards at the NBS’ 49th National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition on March 24 in Jersey City, N.J.

The Rider chapter of the National Broadcasting Society (NBS) captured six first-place awards at the NBS’ 49th National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition on March 24 at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson, in Jersey City, N.J. The competition was part of the 70th Annual Convention of the NBS-Alpha Epsilon Rho. With eight additional honorable mentions in the other programming categories for video production work, the Rider chapter earned honors for 14 of its nominations.
Rider students Alyssa Wakefield ’12, of Edison, N.J., J.T. Fetch ’12, of Robbinsville, N.J., and Kelly Sousa ’13, of Delran, N.J., earned first-place nods in the category of Video Magazine Program for Backstage Story, while Fetch also claimed top honors for Rider Reel Time, in the Video Public Affairs/Interview Program category.
In the Video Comedy Segment category, Travis Hastings ’13, of Ulster Park, N.Y., and Ray Strazdas ’13, of Linden, N.J., earned first-place awards for Dusk Region. Strazdas also carried the day in the categories of Video Public Service Announcements for A Race to Your Plate, and Video – Open Category, for The Food Fortress.
The Rider NBS first-place awards were not confined to students, however. Scott Alboum, video technologies coordinator in the Department of Communication and Journalism, was a top finisher in the NBS Professional Video Production competition for The Amy Silvers Memorial Scholarship Video, which debuted last spring at the Division of Institutional Advancement’s annual Scholarship and Stewardship Luncheon.
“I am very proud of the work that all of these students have done over the last year,” said Alboum, who is serving a two-year term as the chair of the NBS Board of Governors.
More than 70 colleges and universities have chapters in the National Broadcasting Society, whose purpose is to encourage and reward scholarship and accomplishment among students of broadcasting, to establish meaningful communication between student and professional broadcasters and to foster integrity in the use of the powerful instruments of radio, television, film, cable and its many associated businesses and industries.
