Rider University has partnered with Waste Management to offer a unique, on-site Executive MBA program at the company’s Ewing facility. Launched this fall, the program is composed of a cohort of 17 students, representing Waste Management’s human resources, marketing, sales and finance departments from across the Greater Mid-Atlantic region. This is the first on-site EMBA program offered by Rider.
According to Dr. John Donovan, associate professor and director of Rider’s EMBA program, the curriculum is a blend of essential business areas and topics that are particularly germane to the business environment of WM. This semester, employees have taken Management and Team Skills, taught by Mike Saraceno, adjunct professor, and are currently taking Quantitative Analysis for Business, taught by Dr. William Amadio, professor of Computer Information Systems.
Larry Faschan, senior human resources manager for the Greater Mid-Atlantic Market Area at WM, said Rider’s EMBA program was an attractive choice. He said the company valued the University’s willingness to conduct the classes on-site and to work around the company’s succession planning and leadership development of its employees. Recently, WM rolled out a series of goals, entitled Transformation for Waste Management in order to improve customer service, technology and operational efficiency, allowing WM to evolve from a waste company to an energy company. The curriculum integrates the company’s goals through three core areas: leadership development, sustainability and strategic initiatives.
“I’m ecstatic about the relationship with Rider. They continue to meet with us on a continual basis to make sure that they are meeting our needs,” Faschan said. “The on-site facility has enabled employees to network on company initiatives before and after sessions. It gives them the ability to really bond as a team, to go out of their comfort zones and build alliances.”
