Rider University will host Shakesperience: NJ where high-school students from across the state will relive the world of Shakespeare.
The two-day festival will take place on Monday, May 23, and Tuesday, May 24, in The Yvonne Theater on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus. The students will perform scenes and montages from various Shakespeare plays.
Dr. Kathleen Pierce, chair of the Department of Graduate Education, Leadership, and Counseling, said the festival not only enables students to explore and interpret Shakespeare’s text, but it also provides students with the opportunity to meet their peers, as well as Rider faculty and staff.
Participating student groups include Camden High School for the Performing Arts; Clearview Regional High School, Mullica Hill, N.J.; Cumberland Regional High School, Seabrook, N.J.; Kinnelon High School, Kinnelon, N.J.; The Pennington School, Pennington, N.J.; Robbinsville High School, Robbinsville, N.J.; Teen ShakesPEER, Wayne, Pa.; Willfully Yours, Cherry Hill, N.J. and Haddonfield, N.J.; and Woodglen Middle School, Califon, N.J.
Shakesperience: NJ is a partnership between The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and Rider University with the support of the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
