The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics will present An Evening with the Hon. Christine Todd Whitman on Wednesday, October 3, in the Mercer Room, inside Daly Dining Hall, on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. presentation and Q&A. The event is free and open to the public.
A Republican, Christine Todd Whitman served as governor of New Jersey from 1994 to 2001. After two terms in Trenton, Whitman was appointed by newly elected President George W. Bush to serve as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in 2001, a post she maintained for two years.
Whitman was elected New Jersey’s first female governor – a distinction she still holds – after narrowly defeating incumbent Democratic Gov. James J. Florio in 1993. As the state’s top executive, she earned plaudits from environmentalists, including the National Resources Defense Council, for her commitment to protecting the quality of New Jersey beaches through the nation’s most comprehensive monitoring system. She currently works with the Whitman Strategy Group, a sustainability consulting firm she founded to help companies navigate the byzantine laws, regulations and bureaucracies necessary to meet and surpass their environmental goals.
Whitman’s presentation will be preceded by a welcome from Ben Dworkin, director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics. To RSVP, contact Susan Cuccia at 609-896-5350 or via e-mail at [email protected].
