The Rider Kappa Epsilon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, housed in the Accounting department, gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional and community service events, and network with accounting and finance professionals.
Beta Alpha Psi is the national honor society that recognizes excellence in accounting, finance and computer information systems. Under the direction of faculty advisers Dr. Nandini Chandar and Dr. Jia Shen, the Rider Kappa Epsilon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, housed in the Accounting department, gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional and community service events, and network with accounting and finance professionals. This year’s induction ceremony was held on April 26 and featured the following elected officers for the 2013-14 academic year:
President: Jonathan Grossman
Jonathan Grossman ’13, MAcc ’14, is the current Vice President of the IMA, a member of Accounting Society, a tutor for the Rider University Student Success Center, and serves as an international student mentor. Jonathan recently received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Rider’s Undergraduate Commencement on May 11, 2012. This summer, he will be in interning at Ernst & Young in the tax department. Recently, Jonathan traveled to England where he visited London, through a study tour led by Rider faculty Dr. O'Reilly-Allen and Dr. Ira Sprotzer. Graduating with a Master of Accountancy degree in the spring of 2014, he plans to obtain certifications as a CPA, CMA, CFA, and PFS. During his free time, he helps his father on his 50 acre farmland persevered flower farm located in Chesterfield, NJ. His favorite quote is: "If you do the right thing, good things will happen."
Vice-President: Theresa Mattera
Theresa Mattera ’13, MAcc ‘14, is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She is also a campus representative for Roger CPA Review. Theresa will receive a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics at Rider’s Undergraduate Commencement on May 17 and is currently pursuing a Masters of Accountancy. During her undergraduate studies, Theresa was a tax intern at Mercadien and will be completing another internship as part of their auditing team during summer 2013. Theresa’s prior experience has allowed her to gain further insight into the public accounting profession. Upon graduation, she plans to obtain certifications as a CPA and CFE. During her free time, Theresa volunteers at the Masonic Home of New Jersey, enjoys reading, writing, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite quote is: “Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit,” by Aristotle.
Secretary Corey Wu
Corey Wu ’14, is an Accounting major who plans on pursuing his M.Acc. degree and passing the CPA exam. Corey has worked at Wills, Owen, & Baker P.C. as a tax intern during the spring semester. A member of the Accounting Society, Corey plans on pursuing a career in public accounting. During free time, Corey spends time with friends and family, and enjoys basketball and football games during the year. His favorite quote is: “Without passion, you don’t have energy. Without energy, you have nothing.” by Warren Buffet.
Treasurer: Matthew Kepler
Matthew Kepler ’14, is an accounting major. Matthew is involved in many activities outside of Beta Alpha Psi. He is an active member in the Accounting Society as well and will soon be inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. Matthew has taken part in two internships during his time at Rider. In the summer of 2012, he was an intern for West-Ward Pharmaceutical. This semester, Matthew has been gaining experience in public accounting through an internship with Withum Smith and Brown, where her served as a tax intern. Matthew plans on taking this summer to gain the necessary extra credits to get his certification as a CPA. He aspires to work as a tax accountant for a midsized public accounting firm. Matthew’s favorite quote is: “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it - then I can achieve it.”
Public Relations: Melissa Dardani
Melissa Dardani '14, is an Accounting major with a concentration in Fraud and Business Forensics. Melissa is also involved in campus activities and serves as the secretary for her sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma. She intends to enter the Master of Accountancy program while pursuing the CPA certification upon her undergraduate graduation. An avid volunteer, Melissa enjoys service projects such as tutoring for The Rescue Mission of Trenton and mentoring for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. In her free time, Melissa enjoys writing, snowboarding and music. Her career aspirations include working in the public accounting sector, as well as eventually owning and managing her own business.
Community Service Chair: Jeffrey Thomas
Jeffrey Thomas ’14, is an accounting major and Spanish minor at Rider University. He is involved in a variety of clubs and activities, such as the Accounting Society, the Residence Hall Association, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Beta Gamma Sigma. In addition, he works as a peer tutor at the Rider University Student Success Center and is a member of The Rider News. This summer and fall, he will be employed at Johnson & Johnson working in tax accounting. He plans to enter the MAcc program and pass the CPA exam. His favorite quote is: "The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty."
