Rider’s College of Business Administration recently announced the recipients of the second annual Rider Way Academic and Personal Achievement Award for Graduate Business Students. Iram Khan ’12, M.Acc. ’13, of Hamilton, N.J., and Stefanie Cupo ’12, M.Acc. ’13 of Eatontown, N.J., were honored at an April 23 luncheon in Sweigart Hall.
The Rider Way Award was created to honor students who have demonstrated exemplary academic and professional accomplishments as well as leadership and service within the Graduate Business program, according to John Farrell, assistant dean for Graduate Programs.
“Iram and Stephanie are two very deserving women who will make their mark in the accounting world,” Farrell said of the pair, who will both earn their Master of Accountancy degrees in May. “They have already made a tremendous difference at Rider and in the graduate program. Both exemplify the values and high standards of the Rider Way Award, and that makes Rider a better place.”
Khan, who works as a graduate assistant in the office of Rider’s senior associate vice president for finance, has also been an active recruiter for the College of Business Administration throughout her five years as a Rider student. A frequent speaker at admitted students days, Khan also created a high school recruiting program to inform students about the opportunities present at the University. She will begin work at the Big 4 public accounting firm of KPMG flowing her graduation.
“It’s a tremendous honor,” said Khan of her selection for the Rider Way Award. “It’s one thing to be respected by your peers, but it’s a whole different level of honor to be respected by the faculty.”
Cupo, who works as a graduate assistant in the Center for the Development of Leadership Skills, was equally visible within CBA, advising the Leadership Development Program Executive Committee, donating time to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, participating in the CPA Society and speaking to students at accepted students about the value of a Rider education in achieving personal and professional goals. She has accepted a job with the public accounting firm of Cowan, Gunteski & Co., P.A., of Tinton Falls and Toms River, N.J.
“This school has given me so much, and helped me prepare for the real world,” Cupo said. “So, to see that I was recognized for going above and beyond is really an honor.”
