The entire University community is invited to celebrate Cranberry Fest on Tuesday, September 10. The celebration begins at 11:30 a.m. on the Campus Mall, where you can enjoy delicious cranberry cuisine, including a caramel apple stand, as well as music and games, such as the rock-climbing wall, with friends and colleagues.
Cover band “Lost in Paris” will be playing all your favorites, and once again, Cranberry Fest will be graced by “Andrew J. Rider” in the flesh – or at least an awfully good imposter. The doppelganger will recount the story of his two careers – college executive and noted cranberry farmer – the latter of which earned him the moniker “Cranberry King of New Jersey,” by Queen Victoria of England.
A Rider tradition since 1979, Cranberry Fest, celebrates Andrew J. Rider, the first president of the Trenton Business College. His arrival in Trenton as part owner and president of the school in 1866 also afforded the Michigan native the chance to establish a 500-acre cranberry farm near Hammonton, N.J., some 50 miles south of Rider’s current campus in Lawrenceville.
