Rider University will celebrate its 19th annual University Day festivities on Tuesday, April 3, commemorating the anniversary of the day Rider was granted university status by the state of New Jersey in 1994.
This year’s University Day will feature an evening concert by The R Factor winner Erik Krieg ’14, a Finance major, at 9 p.m. in the Pub.
The debut of the The R Factor, a takeoff of the FOX television show, The X Factor, took place on January 28 during Winter Weekend 2012 and featured 14 acts judged by staff members Nick Barbati, Dave Keenan, Karson Langenfelder and Karin Torchia. Krieg was declared the wining contestant after garnering the most votes via text by audience members during the finals on February 22.
“The whole experience was great. All the judges and contestants were extremely friendly and supportive,” Krieg said. “I decided to do The R Factor because music is my passion and I'm going to pursuing it as a lifelong career.”
A self-taught musician, Kreig said his older sister, Stephanie, inspired him to learn how to play the guitar and sing during his senior year of high school. He describes his style as “raw acoustic, somewhere in the folk genre.” While he performs a lot of covers, he writes and composes all of his music, which is free to download at erikkrieg.bandcamp.com.
“I can promise original music with a few covers sprinkled in and that I will give it everything I've got to share my passion with everyone around,” said Kreig about the upcoming performance.
