Rider University’s Independent Scholarship and Creative Activity Presentations (ISCAP) Day will showcase the outstanding academic and creative work of more than 50 undergraduate students. The program, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Sweigart Hall on Wednesday, May 8, will feature the three panel presentations, a poster session and the annual Undergraduate Research Scholars Awards (URSA).
Each year, the URSA Committee presents $5,000 research scholarships to at least five students across the University. The URSA program was established during the 2003-04 academic year to enhance collaborative work between students and faculty and to heighten the intellectual atmosphere on campus. Students can work directly with faculty on joint research projects or on independent projects under the supervision of a faculty member.
This year, the start of the program will feature three panel sessions from 10:30 a.m. to noon, which will be held in various rooms in Sweigart Hall. The schedule includes:
Panel 1: Sustainability & Science: Sweigart Hall, Room 117
Panel II: Creative Expression: Sweigart Hall, Room 115
Panel III: Law & Power Sweigart Hall, Room 118
Following the panel sessions, a poster session will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the Atrium of Sweigart Hall, where the Rider community will have a chance to interact with students stationed with their posters describing their research. Topics will include Differences in Knowledge of Autism, Down Syndrome, and Fragile X Syndrome Across Parents, Teachers, and Students of Education to Progress on the synthesis of pyrrole C5-nucleosides as potential antiviral agents.
The program culminates with the Undergraduate Research Scholar Awards Session in Sweigart Auditorium beginning at 1:30 p.m. where URSA Scholars from the 2012-13 academic year will present their findings. At 2:45 p.m., the 2013-14 URSA scholars will discuss their proposed projects. Research categories will include Sentiment in the Courtroom: Effects of Attorney Emotion during Closing Arguments on Juror Decision-Making and The Geographic Distribution of Physicians in the United States to Determination of a Role for Gβγ in the Cell Cycle Progression in Human Cells, Body of Work: Work on the Body, and Factor Analysis of Expectations and Agreement with Steps 1-3 of a Twelve-Step Recovery Program.
