For the second year in the row, the Center for the Development of Leadership Skills made a big splash in the Richard A. Coppola Pool when its Team Leadership Challenge 2011: “Navigating Your Path to Success” took over the Maurer Center on April 10.
CDLS teamed up with Recreational Programs and the Organizational Leadership program to present the challenge in which more than 100 students participated. The daylong program featured mini-leadership sessions, cardboard canoe building and races.
As part of her capstone assignment for LEAD 598: Project Seminar in Organizational Leadership, graduate student Karissa Kozlak helped to organize the event with Laura Seplaki, associate director of the CDLS and director of the Leadership Development Program, and Dianna Clauss, assistant director of Campus Life for Recreation Programs. Later, Greek Life decided to incorporate the cardboard canoe building and races into their Greek Week activities.
At the conclusion of the Team Leadership Challenge, four student teams received awards. First place was awarded to Bonner Blasts, which consisted of Joseph Landolfi, Syntyche Dennis, Chris Werner, Monique Oudijk, Charles Cartagena, and Whitney Wilson. Team Barrel of Monkeys won the award for “Most Creative Cardboard Canoe,” Team BonStoc won the award for “Most Cohesive Team,” and Bonner BAM won the award for the “Most Team Spirit.”
Patch.com came out to cover the event. Check out the video of the cardboard canoe races.
