The sun rose on a raucous Alumni Gym “White Out,” where the Broncs Zoo came alive to cheer the men’s basketball team in an early-morning battle with Stony Brook on November 13.
While much of the Eastern Time Zone was waking up to another sleepy morning, the roof was practically coming off Rider’s Alumni Gym. The historic venue was abuzz, fueled by a high-volume, high-energy student section, clad all in white, that turned out to support men’s basketball in their nationally televised 6 a.m. tilt against Stony Brook. The game was part of ESPN’s 24 Hours of College Basketball on November 13.
That the Broncs fell to the Seawolves, a popular preseason pick to capture the competitive America East Conference, by a 54-46 margin, only tells part of the story for Rider. For the second season in a row, the University had the opportunity to showcase itself to a national audience, and the Broncs Zoo did not disappoint, earning the admiration of the sports media from coast to coast.
This is the second year in a row that the Broncs have hosted ESPN at dawn. Rider will next meet in-state rival Monmouth on Saturday, November 17, also in Lawrenceville.
