Dear Rider Community,
On Nov. 19, the Office of the Attorney General issued a supplemental report to the Superior Court of New Jersey stating its view that nothing requires Westminster Choir College to be located on the Princeton campus and that Rider University is permitted to move Westminster Choir College to Lawrenceville. The Attorney General confirmed that Westminster ceased to exist as a separate corporate entity as a result of the 1992 merger and is and has been a part of Rider University since that time.
The Attorney General did not draw a conclusion on the consequences of future land use of the Princeton campus. This issue will continue to be addressed in court proceedings, and Rider will continue to communicate with the Attorney General’s office on the relocation and plans for the Princeton campus.
Throughout the transition process that began in 2016, the University has acted in a way that is in the best long-term interests of Westminster Choir College and Rider University as a whole. We are pleased that the Attorney General agrees with our legal position as to the legality of the move, and we continue to move forward with our efforts to complete the relocation by the fall semester of 2020.
At the same time, we want to again recognize the anxiety that naturally accompanies such a change. The time, energy and resources that have been invested in the transition of Westminster to Lawrenceville represent our deeply held belief that it will ultimately create a strong and sustainable future for Westminster Choir College.
