Ranking by CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 is a program first

For the first time in program history, the Rider University women’s basketball team was named to the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 as announced by the committee on Tuesday, January 10. The Broncs (11-4, 5-1 MAAC) enter the rankings at No. 25 with 89 points.
“We are very happy to be representing Rider and the MAAC in the mid-major poll,” women’s basketball Head Coach Lynn Milligan said. “This is a tight, hard-working of young ladies and we will continue to work to become the best team that we can be.”
Rider enters the week riding a three-game winning streak and having won four of their last five contests. The Broncs are having one of their most successful seasons in recent memory in 2016-17, winning eight of their first 11 games for the fourth time in program history.
Green Bay took the top spot in the poll for the fourth straight week, claiming all 31 first-place votes and 775 points. Landing in second was fellow MAAC member Quinnipiac with 737 points, while Drake (713 points), South Dakota (613 points) and Gonzaga (609 points) rounded out the top-five.
The CollegeInsider.com Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 is now in its seventh season of existence. The poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast and Western Athletic and is voted on by a panel of 31 coaches.
Rider returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 12, with a road conference clash against Marist that is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at McCann Arena.
