Alumna will play basketball overseas in Germany
by Rider Sports Information
Recently graduated Rider University women's basketball standout Julia Duggan has signed a contract to play professionally overseas with Turngemeinde (TG) Neuss in Germany.
TG Neuss is a Division II club, the second-highest of seven levels in Germany. The season tips off in early September with playoffs concluding in late March.
“After the great year we had at Rider, I'm very excited to have the chance to continue my basketball career overseas,” Duggan said.
It was a record-breaking campaign for Duggan in 2016-17, as she ranks first in program history with 124 games played and she is also fifth in Rider history with 834 career rebounds. In her final season in Lawrenceville, Duggan earned All-MAAC accolades for the second time in her career after being named to the All-Rookie Team during the 2013-14 season.
This winter, she received Third Team All-MAAC distinction. She ended the regular season averaging over 11 points and eight rebounds per game. She led the MAAC in rebounding in 2017. Duggan ended the year with 12 double-doubles, which also led the conference and during the WNIT she became the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 career points.
“We are very excited and proud of Jules as she takes this step to becoming a professional basketball player,” Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan said. “It was a goal of hers that she worked extremely hard to obtain. She will no doubt continue to represent Rider Women's Basketball and make us proud.”
The Broncs are coming off arguably the most successful season in program history, racking up 24 wins and earning the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament. Picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, Rider posted an 8-2 mark both on the road and at home in conference play. The team swept eight MAAC opponents during the regular season and was ranked for four weeks in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll.
