Program designed for athletic administrators and current or aspiring coaches
Rider University has announced the launch of a new Master of Arts in athletic leadership for athletic administrators and current or aspiring coaches.
“We designed this comprehensive program to meet real-life challenges faced by coaches and administrators,” says Dean Boris Vilic. “The courses and meaningful field work cover a wide range of subjects and will prepare our students to become effective leaders in this growing field.”
The 36-credit program, which launches summer 2017, is designed around the busy schedules of working coaches, administrators and athletes. The three required courses are Current Issues in Sport Psychology, Evidence-Based Research in Athletics and Current Issues in Athletics. Electives cover conditioning, communication, facilities management and planning, governance and policy, risk management, ethical issues, and more.
The program offers access to Rider’s 20 NCAA Division I athletic teams as well as the University’s diverse academic expertise, including courses in business, communication and psychology. Two internships (six credits total) are also required.
In addition, the program has “fast-track” opportunities for students who qualify — either by receiving credit from prior experience or completing the degree in one year after receiving an undergraduate degree from Rider.
“This new degree program is uniquely positioned to offer the best in academics and experience and was developed after the completion of research on job opportunities and the offerings of other college programs,” says Vilic.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university; graduate test scores are not required for admission.
