A Time To Dance features music with a dance theme.
by Anne Sears
The Westminster Concert Bell Choir and conductor Kathleen Ebling Shaw have released a new recording – A Time to Dance. Recorded in Bristol Chapel in May, the CD features new works and arrangements of classics with a dance theme. New titles include Michael Joy’s Dorian Dance, Jason W. Krug’s Winter’s Waltz and Valse Les Adieux by Westminster alumna Karen Lakey Buckwalter. Arrangements range from Rondeau from Abdelazer Suite by Henry Purcell to several selections from Peter I. Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker, Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Johannes Brahms and Martha Lynn Thompson’s arrangement of Dmitri Kabalevsky’s Comedians Gallop.
This past November the choir was seen by millions as it performed at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which was broadcast nationally on NBC. The ensemble joined singer Josh Groban to perform his new song “The Bells of New York City.”
A Time to Dance is the ensemble’s ninth recording. Previous releases are The Pealing Bells, Westminster Concert Bell Choir, Christmas Bells, Westminster Rings!, Praise and Adoration, Christmas at Westminster: The Westminster Concert Bell Choir and By Request and Thirtieth Anniversary Collection.
