Westminster Community Chorus and Chamber Choir Perform in Princeton May 6

The Westminster Conservatory Community Chorus  and Chamber Choir, conducted by Devin Mariman,  will perform an evening of classical masterpieces on Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. in the Princeton University Chapel on the campus of Princeton University.

The Westminster Community Chorus will perform Rachmaninov's, All Night Vigil, Op. 37 and the Chamber Choir will perform the sacred choral music of Alfred Désenclos and Maurice Duruflé .  Additionally, organist Eric Plutz will perform the third movement of Duruflé’s Choral varié sur le thème du “Veni Creator”

The Westminster Conservatory Community Chorus is composed of singers from all walks of life who share a love of choral music. Since its inception in 1996 as part of Westminster Conservatory’s choral program, the group has developed a reputation for excellence in the Westminster tradition. Major works performed by the choir include Beethoven’s Mass in C, the Requiem settings of Duruflé and Fauré, the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s “Lord Nelson” Mass, Honegger’s King David, the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610, Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor, K. 427, Carl Orff ’s Carmina Burana, and the Gloria of Francis Poulenc.

Founded in 2001, the Westminster Community Chamber Choir complements the Westminster Community Chorus as a select ensemble that performs music especially suited to a smaller choir – motets, madrigals and other works – and frequently features members of the group as soloists. The ensemble has performed a wide variety of music ranging from the Renaissance and Baroque, often with period instruments, to modern and jazz.

Conductor Devin Mariman has been conductor of the Westminster Community Chorus since 1998 and conductor of the Westminster Community Chamber Choir since its inception in 2001. He has conducted major works such as Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah, the Duruflé Requiem, Honegger’s King David and a critically acclaimed performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. In addition to his work with the Community Chorus, Mr. Mariman is adjunct assistant professor of voice at Westminster Choir College and chorus master for the Westminster Conservatory’s Children’s Opera. Previously, he served as adjunct professor of conducting at Westminster and The College of New Jersey and as conductor of the Garden State Philharmonic Chorus.

Eric Plutz is university organist at Princeton University where he plays for weekly services at the University Chapel and coordinates the weekly After Noon Concert Series. He is also rehearsal accompanist for the Westminster Symphonic Choir.

Tim Page, in the Washington Post, described Mr. Plutz as a “spirited and virtuosic organist.” As a soloist, Mr. Plutz has performed across the United States and abroad including Salzburg, Austria; Verizon Hall in Philadelphia; various venues in New York City; the Washington National Cathedral in D.C. and Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.
