Contact a librarian from any location by sending a question through a phone
Just in time for the final research papers and other end-of-the-semester projects, Moore and Talbott libraries now offer the option of texting a question to a librarian. This new option allows students to contact a librarian from any location by sending a question or request from their phones.
Assistant Professor-Librarian Heather Dalal championed the Text-a-Librarian service. "When I first started at Rider in 2012, I saw Rider librarians providing great service to students at the reference desk, answering phone calls emails, and scheduling one-on-one appointments," she says. "Since texting has surpassed the use of phone calls and emails, especially for college students, adding Text-a-Librarian seemed a natural next step to show students that Rider librarians want to support them at each and any step in the complicated clunky research process."
To help spread the word about this and other library services, graphic design student Sara Smith '18 has joined the library staff. One of her first projects was to create a poster promoting the Text-a-Librarian service, which can be seen on bulletin boards all over campus. "I am really thankful to have the opportunity to intern on campus at the Moore Library," Smith says. "This job is giving me the experience I will need to land a job when I graduate, and it also helps me get involved on campus and let other students know about the programs offered by the library."
For Moore Library, text your question to 609-454-6542. For Talbott Library, text 609-557-3275. The service is available any time the reference desks are covered.
Students can contact librarians for help in other ways, too. Help is available from librarians via email at [email protected] (Moore) or [email protected] (Talbott) or phone at 609-896-5115 (Moore) or 609-921-7100, ext. 8314 (Talbott). Librarians can also help by using the "Ask a Librarian" link on the libraries' homepages or simply by stopping by the reference desk at either library.
