It’s time to lace up your favorite kicks and step into high gear to support Rider Broncs! This year’s 4th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Women’s Athletics will be held on Saturday, June 12, during Reunion Weekend on the Lawrenceville campus.
The entire University community, alumni and friends are invited to participate in the yearly fundraising event, which directly benefits Rider’s 10 NCAA Division I women’s varsity athletics, as well as the Broncs’ cheerleading team, supporting the overall operation of these programs.
This year, Rider Athletics expects more than 175 participants to take the track, which extends around Centennial Lake on the inner campus roadway and finishes at the Campus Mall. Last year, the event attracted more than 155 participants and raised $7,000 for women’s athletics, said Karin Torchia, associate director of Athletics for External Operations.
“The money raised goes directly toward our incentive grant for women’s programs. All of our women’s programs do fundraising on their own. We award the incentive grant depending on how much each team raises,” Torchia explained. “A lot of it offsets the team’s operational budget, which includes team travel, new uniforms and equipment.”
The registration fee is $25 and each participant is encouraged to raise or donate additional funds. Registration will be held at 9:30 a.m. outside Alumni Gym, followed by an official welcome and announcements at 10 a.m. The 5K Walk/Run will officially start at 10:30 a.m. on the Campus Mall in front of Alumni Gym.
Following Walk/Run, participants and their families are invited to mingle with friends and enjoy lunch at the Family Picnic & Fest on the Campus Mall, featuring the popular cover band The Nerds, DJs, prizes, and KidZone arts and crafts.
