More than 110 employers will search for new hires on Nov. 7
by Aimee LaBrie
Featuring over 110 employers in search of new hires, the Fall Career Fair on Thursday, Nov. 7 gives Rider undergraduate, graduate students and alumni the chance to market themselves to prospective companies. At the same time, participants can also gather information on career opportunities ranging from hospitality to global supply chain management. Held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center, this event is free and open to all students and alumni.
Director of Career Services, Kevin Fallon, describes the importance of this event. “The main goal for our participants is to have face to face interactions with prospective employers. We coach job seekers to be well-prepared for the event. They need to know which companies they want to visit, to make their way in strategic fashion from employer to employer, and have their elevator pitch prepared.”
Several Fortune 500 companies are participating, including Johnson & Johnson, L’Oreal USA, and three of the Big Four accounting firms as well as Met Life, Target, and other prominent businesses in search of interns, such as the Disney College Program and Brainerd Communications, Inc. For students and alumni, the event provides an opportunity to establish personal contact with prospective employers who are actively seeking new staff.
As someone who has years of experience hiring and interviewing employees, Fallon also has a few words of advice. “The worst thing you can do at a career fair is to walk up to an employer and say, ‘Tell me about your company.’ The best thing you can do is to approach with confidence, put out your hand and say something specific that shows you’ve done your homework. ‘I’m interested in your company because you do a lot in the community and community service is important to me.’ That approach is what gets you the phone call later for an interview.”
