NJ Republican congressman to visit Rider Nov. 23
by Michelle Wood
The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University will present “An Evening with Hon. Tom MacArthur” on Monday, Nov. 23. MacArthur represents New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives.
A light reception will begin at 6 p.m. Remarks begin at 7 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Mercer Room in Daly Dining Hall on Rider’s Lawrenceville campus.
MacArthur was first elected in November 2014 after a 28-year career in the insurance industry. He describes himself as a “self-made businessman” whose career culminated as the chairman and CEO of York Risk Services Group. Today he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. He is also vice chairman of the Military Personnel Subcommittee.
“As part of our ongoing mission to raise the level of political discourse, we are committed to bringing every member of the state’s congressional delegation to Rider to offer a report from Washington," said Dr. Ben Dworkin, director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics. “Congressman MacArthur, as one of the newest members in Congress, can offer a unique perspective for students and the public alike.”
As active members of St. Peter’s Church in Barnegat Light, MacArthur and his wife, Debbie, created and funded the St. Peter’s Sandy Relief Fund to help local victims of the 2012 storm. Their family foundation has also supported other various projects, including funds for wounded veterans and orphans with AIDS in Africa. In memory of their daughter Grace, who was born with special needs and passed away at age 11 in 1996, the foundation has given away more than 1,600 wheelchairs around their world.
MacArthur was honored with the Rebovich Citizenship Award at the Rebovich Gala in March 2015.
