The awards are offered to facilitate professional development of women faculty and staff in the Rider community
by Janeen Rodgers '15
Nominations for this year’s Mazzotti Awards in Women's Leadership are currently being accepted through Jan. 30, 2015. Established in 2006 by former chair of the Rider University Board of Trustees, Joan Mazzotti ’72 and husband Michael Kelly, the awards are offered to facilitate professional development of women faculty and staff in the Rider community — specifically in helping them progress to positions of leadership.
Members of the Rider community can nominate female peers for the award by filling out the online application. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 30, 2015. Applicants should be full-time Rider employees and possess a minimum of two years of service.
Previous year recipients are Heeyong Kim, coordinator of distance learning, Carol Kondrach, associate vice president for information technologies and Christine Hamme Peterson, director of the School Counseling and Coaching programs. All three have chosen interesting ways to use the award to further their professional development.
Heeyoung Kim chose to participate in a learning-leadership development program with the Institute for Engaged Leadership (IEL) sponsored by Penn State and the Sloan Consortium. IEL is designed to serve the development needs of emerging leaders and provide an orientation to the issues and forces facing online learning for established leaders. Kim used this experience to begin developing future online learning initiatives at Rider.
Carol Kondrach is hoping to attend the Institute for Educational Management offered by the Harvard Graduate School of Education this summer. The intensive two-week program focuses on the challenges of working in higher education, the importance of organizational change and the benefits of personal renewal. Kondrach believes that the program will further strengthen her IT leadership role across the University.
This past summer, Christina Hamme Peterson participated in the ACE Leadership Academy for Department Chairs. This two-day workshop focused on a variety of topics such as budgeting and financial management, faculty recruitment and retention, leadership strategies, and fostering faculty career satisfaction. Peterson has been applying what she learned in her day to day work as the director of the School Counseling and Coaching programs.
