The family-friendly event will encourage 'Healthy Bodies, Hearts and Minds'
Rider University’s Office of Service Learning invites the local community to participate in Global Youth Service Day, an international day of service, by attending its annual Fun and Fitness Carnival on Sunday, April 23, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Campus Mall. The Carnival will be a field day-style event for the whole family with music, food and numerous activities, including relay races, dance stations, lawn games, soccer clinics and crafting stations. The Carnival will also feature a book fair, where attendees will be able to either donate or take home books from others. More than 200 student volunteers will run the various activities at the event, which is organized yearly by the Office of Service Learning. “At Rider, we emphasize a strong culture of service by providing volunteer opportunities for students, staff and faculty, both on campus and off,” says Joan Liptrot, assistant director of the Office of Service Learning. “We host at least one on-campus day of service each month, offer ongoing service projects, and provide resources for other groups to incorporate service into their meetings and events.” As another way to promote service, attendees will be able to participate in on-site service activities.
In the event of rain, the Carnival will take place in the Cavalla room in the Bart Luedeke Center. There will be signs directing attendees to campus parking. In addition, the campus can be reached via the 606 NJ Transit bus that stops in the front of Rider’s Lawrenceville campus. For more information on the carnival, contact Xany Whitmoore at 609-896-5000, ext. 7079. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
