Rider University has hired Greg Ott as the University’s new sports communications director. Ott assumed the role on Monday, Nov. 7.
Ott most recently worked as the assistant athletic director for communications at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.
“We are pleased to have Greg join our team," Rider University Athletic Director Don Harnum said. "He brings valuable experience in sports communications and will play an integral role in raising awareness and promotion of our 20 NCAA Division I athletic programs.”
Ott began his career in sports communications at Quinnipiac University, where he served as the sports information graduate assistant for two years before moving onto Iowa State University as the intern associate for athletics communications. Earning much experience directly in the field, Ott then returned to Quinnipiac, where he served as the assistant sports information director.
During his four-year term at Quinnipiac, Ott secured regional and national coverage from the New York Times and Boston Globe newspapers, as well as YES Network’s Mike’s On: Francesa on the Fan and ESPN’s Sports Center.
Following his time at Quinnipiac, Ott joined Monmouth University as the assistant director of communications, a position he has held for the past five years. Most recently, he assisted with Monmouth’s relationship launch with ESPN3.
Ott earned his bachelor’s degree in communications/sports journalism and English from Springfield College in Massachusetts. He is currently in the progress of earning his master’s degree in journalism from Quinnipiac University.
Rider University is home to 20 NCAA Division I teams. The Rider Broncs compete in the tough Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC) for all sports except wrestling, which participates in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL). Rider’s wrestling program traditionally ranks among the nation’s top 20 and the field hockey team is a perennial conference champion. Other Division I sports such as men’s basketball, baseball, swimming and diving teams have also captured conference regular season or post-season championships in the recent years.
